Amir-Al-Mu’minin(A.S) the spiritual father

Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S) has always had a special position and status among the Shiites. After the Prophet (P.B.U.H), he has been the best, most pious, brave, just, and most knowledgeable human being and the rightful successor of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

Hawzah News Agency – Many virtues have been enumerated for Imam Ali (A.S); according to Shiite and some Sunni sources [of Hadith and narration],  almost 300 verses of the Holy Qur'an are about his virtues, such as the verse of Mubahila, the verse of Tathir, the verse of Velayat, and some other verses that indicate his infallibility.

.فَمَنْ حَآجَّکَ فِیهِ مِن بَعدِ مَا جَاءکَ مِنَ الْعلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعالَوْاْ نَدْع أَبْنَاءنَا وَأَبْنَاءکُمْ وَنِسَاءنَا وَنِسَاءکُمْ وَأَنفُسَنَا وأَنفُسَکُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعل لَّعنَةُ اللّهِ علَی الْکَاذِبِینَ

(Sura Al-Emran, verses 61-63 Should anyone argue with you concerning him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say, ‘Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women, and your women, our souls, and your souls, then let us pray earnestly and call down Allah’s curse upon the liars)

Many people believe that the Prophet (P.B.U.H) took no one other than Ali, Fatimah, Hassan, and Hussayn (A.S) under that cloak during his controversy with the Christians. The purpose of Allah Almighty from "our sons is" Hassan and Hussayn (A.S) and the meaning of "our women" is Fatimah (S.A) and the meaning of "and our souls" is Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S). (Uyun Akhbar-rur-Reza (A.S) volume 1, p 78,)

On Laylat- ul-Mubit,  the brotherhood convention was held between Prophet(P.B.U.H) and Ali(A.S); When he(A.S) slept in the bed of the Prophet(P.B.U.H) and the polytheists did not achieve their evil goals[in killing Prophet(P.B.U.H)]; The Prophet could secretly migrate to Medina..Prophet(P.B.U.H) chose him(A.S) as his successor on youm-OD-Dar[The day when the Prophet(P.B.U.H) gathered his relatives and requested them to help him in religion and embrace Islam; no one but Ali(A.S) answered him.

He(A.S) took part in all battles except the Tabuk battle; In the Tabuk battle, the Prophet (P.B.U.H) appointed him(A.S)  as his successor in Medina. Imam Ali (A.S) killed a large number of polytheists in the Battle of Badr, protected the life of the Prophet (P.B.U.H) in the Battle of Uhud; killed 'Umar Ibn Abduvad [the third warrior of Ghoraysh] in the battle of Khandaq, and he (A.S) put an end to the Battle of Khiybar, by breaking down the Great Door of Khiybar Fort.

After the revelation of the verse of Propagation and performing his only hajj, The Prophet (P.B.U.H) gathered people in Ghadir region, recited Ghadir's sermon, raised the hand of Imam Ali (A.S), and said: "Whomsoever I am his master, then Ali (A.S) is his master, O'Allah! love the one who loves him and be the enemy with one who is his enemy." After that, some companions, such as Umar -ibn- al-Khattab, congratulated Imam Ali (A.S) and addressed him as Amir- al-Mu'minin. According to Shiite and some Sunni commentators, the verse of completion  [...اَلْیوْمَ أَکمَلْتُ لَکمْ دینَکمْ وَ أَتْمَمْتُ عَلَیکُمْ نِعْمَتی وَ رَضیتُ لَکُمُ الْإِسْلامَ دیناً...] sura Maidah, verse3

 this day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion] on the same day.

After the death of the Prophet (P.B.U.H), a group of people in Saqifah pledged allegiance to Abubakr as the caliph. Their tribal rivalries, jealousy, and resentment led them to oppose the Prophet's order of succession of Ali (A.S).

According to some sources, Ali (A.S) had an open debate with Abubakr, about his violation of the Saqifah incident and his ignorance of the right of the family of the house (Ahl_Ul_Bayt). According to Shiite and some Sunni sources, the companions of the caliph attacked Ali (A.S)'s house to take allegiance, during which Fatimah (S.A) was injured and her child was aborted and after a short time, Fatimah (S. A) was martyred. Ali (A.S) has objected to the event of Saqifah on various occasions and in several speeches and has reminded his right of succession of the Prophet (P.B.U.H). Shaqqaqiyyah sermon is one of the most famous speeches.

 

During the 25 years of ruling of the three caliphs, Imam Ali (A. S) was not engaged in political and governmental affairs and was only engaged in scientific and social subjects; among them are: collecting the Quran which became known as the Mushaf of Imam Ali (A.S) and digging the aqueducts. The Caliphs also consulted with him on various governmental matters, such as judging.

 After the death of the third caliph, Imam Ali (A.S) accepted the caliphate at the insistence of the Muslims. He emphasized justice during his reign and opposed the way of the caliphs, who divided the public treasury according to the records of individuals. He ordered that Arabs, non-Arabs, and every Muslim of every lineage be equal in the share of the treasury; he also ordered Uthman to return all the lands that he had given to different people. During the short period of his ruling, three heavy civil wars such as Jamal, Siffin, and Nahrawan took place.

 

 Imam Ali (A.S) was finally martyred by one of Kharijite named Ibn Muljam Moradi while praying in the altar of Kufa Mosque and was secretly buried in Najaf.

Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S) has always had a special position and status among the Shiites. After the Prophet (P.B.U.H), he has been the best, most pious, brave, just, and most knowledgeable human being and the rightful successor of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). The famous book of Nahj -ul-Balaghah is a selection of the words and letters him (A.S). Some letters have also been attributed to him, which were written by the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H).
